Egyptian Heart Amulet is made out of silver, with the custom hieroglyphs engraved by hand, the strap used is braided leather, but any type of chain can be used to hold the item around the neck, the choice is yours.
The heart was treasured by the ancient Egyptians as the source of human intellect, memory, conscience, and passions. The heart, thought to embody one’s true character, was weighed on the balance of the Court of the Underworld to determine whether the owner was worthy of being reborn in the afterlife. Beginning in the New Kingdom, heart amulets were included in the deceased’s amulet set. Such heart amulets may have the meaning of a substitute for the real heart. Several spells in “The Book of the Dead” deal with the danger that could occur if a person’s heart was taken away or damaged; it was thought that such a separation would destroy his/her existence in the afterlife.
